The Pearls Remain In The News

Lisa Belkin of The Huffington Post asks, Can Adoption Lead to Child Abuse?

Elizabeth Esther explains why we should hold the Pearls accountable for their teachings in Are the Pearls to blame for child spanking deaths?

Clay Duda of the Juvenile Justice Information Exchange takes a look at the history of corporeal punishment in Spanking at Home and in the Classroom, What’s Right and Wrong?

The story has gone international as this post in the Belfast Telegraph demonstrates.

In fact, the story is so big that even Psychology Today is writing about it.

Oh, and by the way, the NY Times Article and its spawns showed us the happy congregation and their happy children.  Read Dulce De Leche’s explanation of why they look so happy.

About Hermana Linda
Hermana means sister in Spanish and Linda is my name. I was born in late 1960 to a mother who had traveled around the world and had been impressed at the baby wearing she saw in Africa and Japan. While in Japan she purchased the baby carrier in which she is wearing me in my avatar. By the grace of God, I trusted Jesus as my personal savior in 1983. He gave me a husband in 1987 and 2 sons in the early 1990's. All glory to God.

Thank you for posting these links – I am SO glad that this abusive book/ couple are being gradually ‘found out’ .. I pray that they can be stopped before another child is hurt – and I am not just talking about being killed!

BYW .. I know I signed the petition to Amazon… but I have just found out that my online book group that I order from [I am still learning Portuguese so order my books from this company in English] sell a LOT of Pearl books … can anyone make a petition to them ?? Being in Britain, I don’t really know if they have even HEARD of the Pearls much less the furore around them right now …

    Thanks

While it’s true Elizabeth spoke out “against” the pearls, there was also the other side. All Elizabeth did was display emotions that did not allow a balanced discussion. Emotional display will almost always woo the crowd, but that is not the full story. If you are reporting this, it would behoove you to be much more balanced. There was Michael Pearl who got about only 5% of the speaking time and another couple who applied those principles with a happy daughter who got even less.

    • Thank you for letting me know that this story has been aired, I have been waiting for it. I will find the link soon and watch it as soon as I have time, and then link to it. I will not promise you impartiality, as the stated purpose of this site is to argue against the Pearls’ teachings.

    • I can’t find the story of which you speak. It is one of the links in this post or something new? Please post the link to which you are referring.

    • I see from Elizabeth Esther that the show has yet to air. Maybe you were at the taping? Anyway, my opinions have not changed. And how do you know when someone is really happy if they get punished for showing any other emotion?
