Letter to A Pro-Spanker
The Melting Mom has written a letter to her pro-spanking friend to explain what she has learned about gentle parenting. This is a fantastic letter and I know that you will find it helpful.
I would also like to remind everyone that Gentle Christian Mothers is a very good place for mothers who are seeking to be gentle to find support.
I just disliked the language used.
For example:
“At first I really thought God wanted me to spank and that it was the only way to produce well-mannered and submissive children.”
You do not “produce” a child. They are a human being, not a plastic container. Again, aiming for submission? Adopt a dog and get him an obedience course.
“Through mutual respect they will submit to you and respect you.”
Submission means to be under someone. Respect happens between equals.
Just my toughts.
I normally love everything shared here, but I’m finding this obsession with children being submissive very upsetting. Want someone to subject to you rather than to love?
Adopt a dog.
I’m not quite sure what you mean. I have not noticed an obsession with children being submissive in the links I post. I do not promote forcing submissin in children, I promote cooperation. One does need one’s children to cooperate to a certain extent in order to live a peacable life. I checked the article in question and found this quote:
This is not promoting the sujection of children, it is promoting harmony and mutual respect.
