Child Abuse in Germany

Jennifer Stahl has been explaining about child abuse going on in German churches on her Blog, Yeshua Hineni. In this post she writes about the Pearl’s book To Train Up A Child which, while not being sold, is available “under the table.”  She Translates and transcribes a video about the concerns one woman has for her brother’s children being raised by this method.

I would also like to mention that Jennifer has been reporting on a very serious abuse case called, The Twelve Tribes in Germany. She has put a lot of work into this, tirelessly translating and transcribing from German, for the English speaking world to read.

Here is what she has so far:  part 1part 2 part 3part 4part 5part 6, part 7part 8part 9,part 10,  part 11part 12, part 13part 14 and part 15.

Spanking Debate in South Africa

Yesterday I posted a link to an opinion piece on News 24 from South Africa about where the term “Spare The Rod, Spoil The Child” originated. I now have discovered that there is a rip-roaring spanking debate going on in South Africa over their proposed new law against spanking.  The link I shared was a part of that debate.  Heating up the debate even more is the recent development that the South Africa Human Rights Commission is investigating a church who has refused to stop teaching that one must spank their children.   The church, Joshua Generation (JoshGen) is claiming that they are being persecuted for teaching God’s Truth. I got most of my information about this situation from another opinion piece on News 24 by Peter Allebone. Mr. Allebone does not argue from a Christian point of view and I disagree with his beliefs about evolution. However, I do not see what evolution has to do with spanking. He does give us some insight on the spanking debate and debunks the studies which were cited by Andrew Selley of JoshGen in his defense.

Please pray about this situation, specifically that the pastor of  JoshGen will understand God’s will in this situation.

And When They Become Teenagers? Then What?

Cindy Foster of The Baptist Taliban blog explains why she no longer believes in spanking in, I’m Coming Out!

Along similar lines, Dara Stoltzfus has some interesting things to say about parenting teenagers in Spanking puts the parent in a bad autopilot mode…

And speaking of Dara, she also takes a very good look at the question, Does more spanking = less crime and delinquency?

Delaware Bans Spanking?

Delaware’s new anti-abuse law prohibits causing pain to children. Does this effectively ban spanking? Here are a few articles on the subject:

Does a new law in Delaware ban spanking? on CNN’s The Situation Room.

Spanking Ban in Delaware? First State to Pass Law Expanding Child Abuse Definition Sparks Debate on Yahoo’s Shine.

It looks like the bill is not intended to ban spanking, but the language is vague enough that it could be used to. I will be keeping my eye on this story.

Spanking To Be Banned in Scotland?

The UK Daily Mail reports that Scottish Parliament is scheduled to discuss an anti-spanking law.

Controversial anti-smacking legislation giving tougher legal protection to children was expected to be detailed in a Scottish Parliament Bill today.

The proposed legislation was set to outlaw the hitting of all children with any implement and the smacking of children under three.
