It Starts With Our Views

Molly ponders The hypocrisy of children’s rights on Adventures in Parenting. I had similar thoughts when I heard a pastor mention that a pastor or Deacon must not be a striker (1 Tim 3:3 and Titus 1:7.) I whispered to my husband, “Ah, but they believe in striking children. Apparently they don’t consider children to be people.”

Also, veteran parent, Sally Clarkson, kicks off a new parenting series with Parenting: It all starts with your view of God.

One Mom’s Look at “Shepherding A Child’s Heart”

Thatmom has re-posted Anne Sokol’s book review of Ted Tripp’s book, Shepherding A Child’s Heart.  I’m so glad she did because I missed it the first time.

Claire’s Testimony

Claire  has been doing some more Myth Busting at Dare to Disciple in Myth Busting 4: My Story.  Here are the myths she busts in this installment:

  • ‘Punish’ and ‘discipline’ are synonyms.  (note:  Sally Clarkson mentioned this in a recent post)
  • All Christians spank.
  • Spanking is the best way to make a point to a young child.
  • Spanking works.
  • God mandates – or at least strongly recommends – corporal punishment.
  • Children are lesser citizens than adults.
  • People have to feel bad to act better.

Thankfull for Gentle Discipline

Carissa Robinson has a lovely blog post about how Thankfull she is that they are using gentle discipline, complete with an example of how it works.  She also links to Sally Clarkson’s blog post about First Time Obedience.  Sally Clarkson writes as the mother of adult children and reflects back on how her children were raised and how dangerous it is to try to use a formula for child raising, especially one which involves training.
